Above the world, war howls like a rabid beast. A hellish battlefield stretches endlessly, soaked in blood and ash. Soldiers clash with brutal steel, and dragons carve the sky with their dark wings, casting shadows over the carnage below. The land is scorched, burning beneath a sun turned red from the smoke of dying men. But the true power in this war is not held by the warriors on the field. It lies far deeper—hidden beneath the towering fortress that looms like a sentinel over the ruin.

Beneath the castle, beyond sight and sound, lies a vast network of chambers and halls—cold, wet, and dripping with ancient decay. These forgotten chambers, buried deep beneath the ground, are home to those who pull the unseen strings of the war above: the wizards. In these lightless rooms, their rituals are woven, ancient as the bones of the earth, whispered to them by forces older than men.

Here, the air is thick with incense, with the scent of burning herbs and bitter smoke. Shadowy figures in tattered robes stand around flickering altars, their faces hidden beneath hoods, their eyes glowing with a light not of this world. The walls pulse with etched symbols, runes that glow faintly with otherworldly energy. Skulls of long-dead beasts sit on shelves, their sockets glowing with dim, ethereal light, and pools of dark liquid bubble up from the cracked stone floors. The ground seems alive, whispering in forgotten tongues, vibrating underfoot with each ritual chant.

The wizards themselves are not like the men who fight above. They are ancient, their faces gaunt and hollow, their eyes filled with the weight of centuries. They were once human, perhaps, but now their forms have twisted—bent to the will of the dark forces they serve. Their skin clings tightly to their bones, their hands blackened by the years spent weaving their wicked spells. They do not remember the warmth of the sun, nor the softness of flesh; they are creatures of shadow, bound only to the dark energy that pulses beneath the earth.

They gather in circles around stone altars, their voices a low, guttural hum as they murmur incantations that shake the very foundations of the world. They are summoning—opening rifts between realms, drawing forth creatures of darkness from the far reaches of existence. Through their rituals, they pull demons from the abyss, twisting them into tools of war, creatures to unleash upon the battlefield above. But these are no simple conjurings. The wizards do not control the demons—they merely invite them, unleashing chaos and destruction with no promise of loyalty. These summoned horrors roam the battlefield, slaughtering with abandon, their blood-soaked claws indiscriminate in their fury.

The Puppetmasters of War

The wizards watch the battle from beneath the castle, their eyes gleaming with malevolent light. They can see it all—through the smoke and haze, through the blood and fire. Their minds are connected to the battlefield in ways the soldiers could never understand. They see the terror in the eyes of the men as the demons descend, ripping through armor and bone as though they were paper. They hear the screams as warriors fall, their bodies torn apart by the claws of the beasts summoned from beyond.

And yet, the wizards are indifferent. They care nothing for the men who fight above, for the kingdom or its enemies. They care only for their dark magic, for the thrill of unleashing power beyond comprehension. They pull the strings, controlling the flow of the war like puppeteers playing a macabre game. Each demon released, each spell cast, tilts the balance of the battle—sometimes in favor of the kingdom, sometimes against it. For the wizards, it is all the same. Victory or defeat, it matters not, as long as the blood continues to flow, as long as their power grows.

But their motives are not entirely unknown. Some say they are loyal to the kingdom, protecting it by any means necessary—even if it means unleashing demons to destroy its enemies. Others whisper that the kingdom itself is corrupt, that the wizards plot to destroy it from within, using their magic to bring about its downfall. And there are darker rumors still—that the wizards have forgotten their purpose entirely, that they now serve only the dark forces they summon, bound to the will of the abyss itself.

Beneath the Surface, They Rule

Deep beneath the castle, their power grows. In chamber after chamber, their rituals continue, summoning horrors beyond imagination. Some demons are helpful, bound to the wizards’ will, sent to slaughter the enemy and protect the kingdom’s forces. But others are far more dangerous, creatures of chaos and destruction that obey no master, tearing through friend and foe alike in their bloodlust.

And as the war rages above, the wizards remain. Hidden in their underground sanctum, their glowing eyes fixed on the carnage, their blackened hands raised in unholy incantation. They are the true rulers of the battlefield, the puppetmasters pulling the strings of life and death. And as long as the blood continues to flow, as long as the war rages on, their power will only grow.

Beneath the castle, in the darkest depths, the wizards reign eternal.
